Acupressure Points for Sinusitis


Acupressure is an effective natural method to help relieve sinus pressure and pain by applying pressure to specific acupressure points on the body. The following are the commonly used acupressure points for sinusitis that you can do on your own. Instead of using your fingers, you can also use a tool called an acupressure pen, which is a pen-like tool with a small rounded end. Once you master this simple self-care technique, you can use it anytime and anywhere.

Bitong (EXTRA 7/M-HN-14)

Bitong literally means opening up the nose, it can be used to ease rhinitis, sinusitis and allergies. It is located on each side of the nose, just under the nasal bones. Use both forefingers or middle fingers and apply pressure about 1 minute each time.

Yingxiang (LI20)

Yingxiang, also known as Receiving Fragrance, can be used to relieve runny nose, blocked nose. It is located in the nasolabial groove, at the level of the midpoint of the lateral part of the nasal wing. Use both forefingers or middle fingers and apply pressure about 1 minute each time.

Taiyuan (LU9)

Taiyuan, also known as Great Deep Pool, can be used to reduce the discomfort caused by sinusitis. It is located on the radial end of the transverse crease of the wrist, where the radial artery pulsates. Press it gently for about 1 minute or you can do circular motion with finger.

Yintang (EXTRA 2/M-HN-3)

Yintang, also known as Hall of Impression, can be used to relieve sinus congestion. It is located between the inner edges of the eyebrows. Press it lightly with your forefinger and applying pressure using small circular motions. Then, start with your forefinger right above the bridge of the nose and stroke upward towards the forehead.

Quchi (LI11)

Quchi, also known as Crooked Pool, can be used in relieving allergies and sinus disorders. It is located on the side of the elbow, on the outer side of the arm. Use your thumb and apply pressure or you can do circular motion with thumb. This procedure should have been repeated for the other arm.

Zusanli (ST36)

Zusanli, also known as Leg Three Miles, can be used to reduce the discomfort caused by sinusitis. It is located on the outer calf, about four finger widths under the knee bone. Use your thumb or forefinger and apply pressure.

Hegu (LI4)

Hegu, also known as Union Valley, can be used to reduce headaches and stress due to sinusitis. It is located on the highest spot of the muscle when the thumb and forefinger are brought close together. Use your thumb and apply pressure or you can do circular motion with thumb. This procedure should have been repeated for the other hand.
