Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is an international joint venture university founded by Xian Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. As an independent Sino-foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of both prestigious parent universities and is the first and only one of its kind approved by the Ministry of Education in China.
XJTLU is located in Suzhou Industrial Park, to the east of Suzhou’s historic center, and is easily accessed by plane, train and bus. It is only 24 minutes due west of Shanghai on the fastest high-speed train, and within easy reach of a number of international airports, making it the perfect location for events.
XJTLU recruits the best students from China and abroad to both its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The University has almost 18,000 registered students, including those who are completing study at the University of Liverpool. When they graduate, XJTLU students’ ambitions and aspirations take them all over the world into jobs and further study. In 2020, over 86 percent of graduates planned to continue their studies in world-renowned universities (Masters and PhD), with 38 percent entering one of the world top ten universities and almost 80 percent receiving offers from universities ranking in the world top 100. Entry Requirements for Undergraduate:
Year One Entry
XJTLU welcomes applications from high-quality candidates in all subjects with appropriate high school or equivalent qualifications. Students will normally be expected to have a high standing in their high school performance with a minimum B average in all subjects as well as relevant subjects.
Minimum English language requirement: IELTS: 5.0 (min 4.5 in all sections) or TOEFL: 62 (iBT)
Students who are entering into Year One with less than IELTS 6.0 or equivalent in their English proficiency will take 10 credits EAP, and students with IELTS 6.0 or above will take 5 credits EAP.
Year Two Entry
Students who have completed A-levels or International Baccalaureate (or equivalent) will be considered for entry into Year Two, different programmes have different subject-relevant requirements.
A-level: BBB
IB Diploma: 30 points
Advanced Placement Tests/Subject SATS - High school diploma with a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above, plus:
- 3 SAT II Subject Test 600+ or
- 3 AP exams 4+ or
- Either SAT I Test at 1280+ or ACT Composite Score at 27, and 2 AP exams 4+ or 2 SAT II Subject Test 600+
Minimum English language requirement: IELTS 6.5 (min 5.5 in all sections) or TOEFL: 90 (iBT) (min 21 in any skill)
Transfer Application
You can apply to XJTLU as a transfer student if you are enrolled as a full-time student at another institution. Please contact us for further details.
Entry Requirements for Postgraduate:
UK: Upper second class honours (2:1) or equivalent. North America: 3.0 Cumulative GPA (out of 4) or 3.2 Cumulative GPA in the final two years of your undergraduate program.
Minimum English language requirement:
If English is not your native language or if you have not studied in English at degree level, you will need to provide evidence of your level of English proficiency. You should normally possess an appropriate IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or equivalent score. The level of English required depends on the program you're applying for. Exemption or onsite Password English language test is available.
Tuition:
Undergraduate
RMB 93,000 per academic year
Postgraduate
Tuition fees at masters level vary depending on the programme being studied.
Scholarship: 10 to 50% of tuition (up to 4 years)
Early Bird Discount
All international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students who submit an online application and accept their conditional or unconditional offer by 1 May will automatically qualify for a RMB 8,000 early bird discount.
Degree Certificates:
XJTLU undergraduate students are rewarded with a UK degree from the University of Liverpool and Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University degree approved by the Ministry of Education in China.
